Claudia Fernández

Born in Mexico City, 1965
Lives and works between Mexico City and Mérida, Mexico.

Since the 1990’s, Claudia Fernández has been examining the legacy of traditional Mexican objects and craftsmanship and their assimilation into diverse cultural contexts alongside the Mexican landscape and abroad. Coming from a family dedicated to art, she considers herself a self-taught artist, although she has formally studied at the Cabañas Cultural Institute in Guadalajara, and at the National School of Plastic Arts at UNAM. Her work is carried out in a wide spectrum of media that ranges from painting, installation, video and photography, as well as community and educational projects in which she proposes models of social participation and art, by relating art to social and natural issues.


Fernández’s work has been exhibited in both individual and group exhibitions in Mexico and abroad.
